Nikon India Pvt. Ltd. has launched the NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S, a professional telephoto zoom lens for full-frame FX-format mirrorless cameras. Part of Nikon’s S-Line, it is the world’s first interchangeable zoom lens to combine a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter.
The lens weighs approximately 2,735g, about 515g less than its predecessor, the AF-S NIKKOR 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR, released in 2020.
Key features: Nikon NIKKOR Z
The lens covers a 120–300mm focal length range and is intended for wildlife photography, including birds in flight, fast-moving animals, subjects in dense forests and wildlife activity at dawn and dusk.
It also supports long-range photography requiring precision and detail from a distance. Its optical design delivers high resolution and smooth, natural bokeh, with rendering performance comparable to that of a prime lens across the frame.

Other features include:
- Autofocus: Nikon’s Silky Swift VCM (SSVCM) autofocus drive system provides fast, precise and smooth focusing when tracking moving subjects, including animals, birds in flight, athletes, vehicles and performers. It supports wildlife, sports and action photography.
- Optical coatings: Meso Amorphous Coat, which Nikon describes as delivering the highest anti-reflection performance in its history, works alongside ARNEO Coat to suppress ghosting and flare in challenging lighting conditions, including strong backlighting, shaded foliage and low light.
- Vibration reduction: The lens offers up to 6.5 stops of vibration reduction (VR) at the centre and edges of the frame when used with a camera that supports Synchro VR. This helps reduce camera shake during handheld shooting and provides flexibility when a tripod or monopod is impractical.
- Handling and durability: Internal focusing (IF) and an internal zoom mechanism keep the lens’s overall length constant during focusing and zooming. The lens supports Arca-Swiss screw-type quick-release tripod clamps and features a tripod collar with a rubber cushion and integrated finger grip. It accommodates front screw-on filters and rear slip-in filter holders, and includes the HB-120 Bayonet Hood. Its magnesium-alloy construction and extensive sealing provide dust- and drip-resistant performance.
