Installation and Usability
Setting up the device takes less than 30 seconds with its tool-free DIY Plug-N-Play setup:
- Unplug your router’s existing 12V power adapter from the back of your router.
- Insert that adapter pin directly into the ‘IN’ socket of the Oakter Mini UPS.
- Connect the integrated ‘OUT’ DC pin of the Mini UPS into your router’s power port.
- Flip the power switch ON.
Once installed, the unit operates autonomously in the background, keeping your network active 24/7 without requiring manual intervention.
Design and Build Quality

The Oakter Mini UPS Basic features a minimalist, pocket-sized form factor that easily integrates into any home or office desk setup without creating clutter. Finished in a matte black shell with a distinct cyan-blue top panel, the build is both lightweight and sturdy.

On the top panel, the unit keeps operations intuitive with:
- A dedicated ON/OFF power toggle switch
- A bright LED status indicator
- A dedicated Wi-Fi router adapter pin input socket
An integrated 2-in-1 DC output cable engineered to fit standard router power ports without requiring bulky external couplers.
Its compact footprint allows it to sit neatly beside your router or be tucked behind entertainment consoles out of direct sight.

Performance and Power Backup
Equipped with a 2000 mAh dual-cell battery architecture, the Mini UPS Basic delivers up to 3 hours of continuous backup, depending on the power consumption and load of your router.
Basic single-band routers operating at 12V–0.5A or 1A easily hit the full 3-hour mark, while high-throughput dual-band routers pulling up to 2A achieve a reliable 1.5 to 2.5 hours of uptime. We even tried it with 2.5A routers, and it worked without any issues, but the battery backup is slightly less. I would recommend Plus or even PRO models with a bigger battery capacity for 12V-2.5A and even 12V-3A routers.
The defining performance highlight is its online UPS switching technology. During a power disruption, the unit switches from mains electricity to internal battery power instantaneously with zero millisecond delay. Because there is zero lag, your router will not reboot, disrupting your use.
Smart Battery Management & Safety Systems
Oakter incorporates an intelligent battery management system (BMS) that automatically charges the internal cells whenever main power is present and cuts off when full. You never need to manually cycle the switch or unplug the device when power returns.
To protect both the internal cells and your expensive networking gear, the Mini UPS Basic integrates comprehensive circuit protections:
- Overcharge & Deep Discharge Protection to extend overall cell lifespan
- Short-Circuit Protection to isolate electrical faults
- Overcurrent & High-Voltage Surge Protection to safeguard connected electronics against erratic grid spikes
Compatibility: Supported & Unsupported Devices
The Mini UPS Basic is widely compatible across networking equipment, CCTV security cameras, and set-top boxes, provided they run on 12V DC power up to 2A.
Compatible Brands & Hardware:
- Router Brands: D-Link, TP-Link, Cisco, ASUS, Netgear, Tenda, Linksys, Mi, Nokia, HUAWEI
- ISP-Provided Modems: Airtel Xstream Fiber, BSNL, ACT Fibernet, Excitel, Gigatel, Spectranet, YOU Broadband, standard Jio Fiber routers

Conclusion
The Oakter Mini UPS Basic functions as a practical power backup solution for standard 12V networking equipment. Its combination of automatic battery management, instantaneous power switching, and integrated safety protections addresses routine power interruptions effectively.
While it is not designed to support PoE setups or fixed wireless systems like AirFiber, it fulfills its intended role for conventional 12V DC routers, modems, and compatible home appliances.
The Oakter Mini UPS Basic is available from online retailers such as Amazon.in and Flipkart for as low as Rs. 949. It is backed by a 1-year replacement warranty with doorstep support.
