Dolby Cinema arrives in Bengaluru at AMB Cinemas

Dolby Laboratories and AMB Cinemas have announced the launch of Bengaluru’s first Dolby Cinema. Located at the AMB Cinemas multiplex in Kapali, this opening marks the second Dolby Cinema location in India, following the format’s debut in Pune five months ago.

The launch represents a continued expansion of premium large-format exhibition in the Indian subcontinent, resulting from a collaboration between the global audio-visual technology leader and the South Indian multiplex chain founded by the Asian Group in partnership with actor Mahesh Babu.

A New Benchmark in Cinema Design

The newly inaugurated auditorium is a purpose-built, 588-seat facility located within the 9-screen AMB Cinemas complex. According to the announcement, the cinema has been designed from the ground up to adhere to specific technical standards intended to preserve the filmmaker’s creative intent.

The venue combines Dolby’s proprietary technologies with a specialized architectural design:

  • Dolby Vision: A dual-laser projection system that delivers high dynamic range, offering deeper darks, higher brightness, and a wider color gamut compared to standard screens.
  • Dolby Atmos: An immersive audio system that moves sound around the auditorium, including overhead, to create a multidimensional soundscape.
  • Auditorium Design: The space features a wall-to-wall-to-ceiling curved screen, specific acoustic treatments, and theater geometry optimized to ensure clear sightlines from every seat.

Content and Availability

The cinema opened to the public on January 16, 2026. The first film to be screened in the new format is Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, presented in both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

The launch aligns with a growing pipeline of content mastered for the format. Globally, over 800 theatrical features have been released or confirmed in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

The slate for 2025 includes high-profile Indian titles such as Baahubali – The Epic, Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, War 2, Game Changer, and Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2.

Strategic Partnership and Expansion

AMB Cinemas, a joint venture between the Asian Group and Mahesh Babu and Namrata Shirodkar Ghattamaneni, was established in 2018. Under the guidance of the late Mr. Narayandas K. Narang, the group is credited with introducing the “superplex” concept to the region.

By adopting the Dolby Cinema format, AMB Cinemas joins a global network of exhibitors spanning 15 countries. The company stated that this addition reinforces its position in the premium exhibition market by aligning with international standards of cinematic excellence.

Tickets for the new Dolby Cinema at AMB Cinemas, Kapali, are currently available for purchase via the official AMB Cinemas website and BookMyShow. Special previews and exclusive offers will be available in the days following the launch.
