Prime Video with Alexa+ adds jump to the scene feature

Amazon is adding a new capability to its Alexa+, an upgraded version of the existing Alexa AI assistant, powered by generative AI. The new feature allows users to describe a movie scene to Alexa+, and it will take them directly to that particular scene. This works only on Fire TV and movies that are available on Prime Video.

Alexa+ utilizes visual understanding and movie captions, processed through Prime Video’s X-Ray, to comprehend the characters, plot, and action unfolding in any given scene, enabling it to determine the specific moment a customer wants to watch on their Fire TV.

All the heavy lifting of understanding visuals, scene details, and more is done by a variety of large language models, including Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude, built on Amazon Bedrock.

How to jump right to the movie scene by just asking Alexa+?

To try out this feature on your Fire TV, just ask Alexa+ to jump to the movie scene you have in mind, say, for example,

  • “Jump to the scene where Joshua asks, ‘Shall we play a game?’” or
  • “Jump to the card scene in Love Actually.”
  • “Jump to the boulder chase scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark”

The command will take you right to the scene, no fast-forwarding and searching. Do note that, in order for the feature to work, the movie will need to be included with a Prime membership, or you will need to have purchased or rented the movie from Prime Video.

Amazon has assured it will add more movies and scenes to its search index and will expand the feature to TV shows soon.
