Amazon has launched Kindle Translate in beta — an AI-powered translation service that helps Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) authors make their eBooks available to readers worldwide in multiple languages.
Expanding multilingual publishing on Kindle
Currently, fewer than 5% of titles on Amazon.com are available in more than one language. Kindle Translate aims to bridge this gap by enabling authors to reach new audiences and increase their potential earnings through multilingual editions of their work.
How Kindle Translate works
The beta version of Kindle Translate supports translations between English and Spanish, and from German to English. Selected authors can access the feature through the KDP portal, where they can manage translations, select target languages, set list prices, and publish translated editions.
All translations are automatically reviewed for accuracy before publication. Authors can preview their translated editions or enable automatic publishing after review. Fully formatted translated eBooks can be ready for publication within a few days.
Benefits for authors and readers
eBooks translated using Kindle Translate will be available for purchase and download on the Amazon store. These titles will carry Kindle Translate labels and include sample previews for readers. Translated editions are also eligible for KDP Select and Kindle Unlimited, allowing authors to reach a wider audience through subscription readers.
Amazon stated that Kindle Translate will expand language support over time, adding more translation options for authors and offering readers access to a broader range of global titles.
Availability
- Kindle Translate is available in beta for select Kindle Direct Publishing authors.
