After a long wait, Meta has finally unveiled an iPadOS version of WhatsApp, the company’s popular instant messaging app. WhatsApp confirmed the news via its official X post, sharing the App Store download link. The app requires iPadOS 15.1 or later to run.
This move from Meta is a welcome one, given the high demand from users wanting to use WhatsApp on iPads. It allows users to enjoy their favorite photos and status updates on a larger screen, offering a more immersive experience.
The app retains the features of the iPhone version, allowing users to join audio and video calls with up to 32 participants, use both the front and rear cameras, and share their screen during calls.
Further, the latest application will also leverage iPadOS features like Stage Manager, which allows users to resize tabs, reorder them, and group multiple apps together, as well as Split View and Slide Over, enabling it to run alongside other applications.
iPad users can install the WhatsApp app via the App Store and log in to their account using the “Linked Device” option on their iPhone, which instantly syncs messages and data across both devices.
Regarding the release, WhatsApp said,
As one of our biggest requests, we’re excited to announce that WhatsApp is now available on iPad.
Bringing all your favorite features to a larger screen, WhatsApp for iPad makes keeping in touch with friends and family even easier. Make video and audio calls with up to 32 people, share your screen, and use both front and back cameras.
