Instagram testing “Latest Shares” row in DM

Instagram is currently testing a new feature that will allow users to access their recently shared Reels easily. The feature was first revealed by the Turkish account Dijital Alar. He shared a screenshot that reveals a row at the top of Instagram DMs with the “Latest Shares” label.

Instagram confirmed the development in an official statement to TechCrunch, citing improvements in searching for and rediscovering Reels that were previously shared in messages.

We’re rolling out improvements to how you can search for and rediscover Reels that were previously shared in messages.

In the future, you’ll see a row in the DM page with the avatars of the friends with whom you shared a Reel. If you share a short video multiple times, it will only appear once with the avatar of the friend with whom you last shared it. In this way, you could access all of your recently shared contents easily.

It is unclear whether the “Latest Shares” bar will also display non-Reels posts. Nonetheless, Instagram is taking this step in order to expand the reach of its Reels platform by enticing users to share the reel they enjoyed with more friends.

In the coming days, we should learn more about the wide rollout of this feature.
