Chromecast with Google TV now shows live video from Nest Cam

Google announced this week that Google TV users would soon be able to broadcast their compatible Nest Cam devices, including the Nest Doorbell, on their TVs.

After introducing Nest video previews to the Pixel’s At a Glance widget, the firm is now focusing on its latest streaming dongle. People who use Chromecast with Google TV can watch Nest footage right on their TV, as well as, users shouldn’t have to wait long to use this option.

How does it work?

Instead of using a separate app or annoying pop-ups, the experience will be powered by the Assistant. Users can turn on the live feed by pressing the voice actions button on the remote or by using any Assistant-powered speaker as well as a smart display. In either case, you’ll tell Google which camera you want to see on your TV.

  • Chromecast Voice Remote: Simply speak the name of the device you want to use to stream the live broadcast using your voice remote. For instance, to view your doorbell footage, simply say “show me the front door camera.”
  • Other Google Assistant-enabled devices: Say “Hey Google, show me the front door camera on my TV” using your Nest speaker or display.
