Google Pay expands “Nearby Stores” feature to 35 Indian cities


Recently Google had been testing a new feature called “Nearby Stores” that would help users discover the stores that were open nearby and were collecting payment via Google Pay. The feature is now getting expanded to 35 more cities across the country, along with another feature to book cooking gas cylinders from major service providers.

Google Pay Nearby Stores is now available for these cities:

  • Telangana: Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Secunderabad
  • Karnataka: Bengaluru, Mysuru
  • Maharashtra: Mumbai, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Pimpri-Chinchwad
  • Delhi NCR: New Delhi
  • Haryana: Gurugram, Faridabad
  • Tamil Nadu: Chennai
  • Gujarat: Surat, Ahmedabad
  • Bihar: Patna
  • Uttar Pradesh: Varanasi, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Prayag Raj, Kanpur, Noida, Greater Noida
  • Andhra Pradesh: Visakhapatnam
  • Madhya Pradesh: Indore
  • West Bengal: Kolkata
  • Orissa: Bhubaneswar
  • Punjab: Ludhiana, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Chandigarh
  • Kerala: Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Ernakulam

Merchants can choose to display more information for their businesses like whether social distancing measures are in place, whether essential goods are in stock and business timings. For users of Mumbai alone, Google Pay will also show if the store is present within a containment zone.

The second feature that they are introducing is the ability to buy gas cylinders via Google Pay itself. They have begun supporting the purchase of cylinders from HP Gas, Bharat Petroleum and Indane.
