OnePlus ties up with Qualcomm to start 5G trials in India

Earlier this week at the MWC OnePlus showcased its first  Prototype Smartphone powered by Snapdragon 855 combined with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and Qualcomm RF Front-End solutions. It added that it will also be amongst the first OEMs to launch smartphones powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform in India, and plans to work with Qualcomm on 5G trials.

Several companies have introduced their 5G smartphones at the MWC. OnePlus has already announced that it will be partnering up with EE to be among the first to release a commercial 5G smartphone in the UK, which will likely the the OnePlus 7.

OnePlus has also partnered with Qualcomm to launch the  “5G Apps of Tomorrow” challenge among global developers that will award a total of €250,000 in cash for the winners. The company aims to integrate industry resources, and push forward for the next steps of 5G apps for users.

5G will be rolled out starting in the first half of 2019 across the U.S., Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and China, with deployments in sub-6 GHz and mmWave. By 2020-21, 5G is expected to be deployed in India and Latin America.
