Google acquires content sharing service Kifi to improve its Spaces app

Google Spaces

Google has acquired Kifi (via), a startup that focuses on internet based content sharing. The Kifi team will join Google Spaces as a result of the acquisition.

Google had launched Spaces app in May this year which lets you instantly find and share articles, videos and images without leaving the app, since it comes Google Search, YouTube, and Chrome come built in.

Kifi service that enables users to save, share and chat about content from many websites will shut down in the coming weeks. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Kifi team says that they will be working with Google to “improve group sharing, conversation and content finding.”

Kifi team said via a Medium post,

Although the Kifi service and data will not become part of Google, you’ll be able to use Kifi for the next few weeks, after which you’ll still be able to easily export your data for a few weeks.

It will be interesting to see how Google makes use of the Kifi acquisition and improves Spaces app which has failed to pick up yet.
