Microsoft plans to invest $1 billion in Mobile Space

According to Forbes Microsoft is planning to invest over $1 billion in the mobile space . The information comes from an analyst who claims he got this info from the General Manager, Investor Relations at Microsoft

Windows Mobile is down to a single digit market share and RIM and Apple have literally eaten up the marketshare of  WinMo handsets over the last couple of years.  There were rumors that MS could pick up Palm or RIM but it might not happen now as Microsoft unveiled the Windows 7 Phone series at Mobile World Congress last month.

Windows Phone 7 looks really promising from what we saw at the Barcelona last month but what’s worrying is the expected release date of Windows 7 Phone hardware – Holiday Season 2010 which is quite far away in the mobile world where innovation happen at an incredible speed. But it’s good news that the company is investing heavily in the mobile space and Microsoft can certainly make a comeback
