A few days back we posted rumors about Amazon’s smartphone ambitions, today we have a better look at it. BGR has managed to get hold of an image of a prototype device which is said to be Amazon’s smartphone that will be launched later this year. Before you write off the design, it’s worth knowing that the prototype is wrapped in a shell that hides the actual design. The six camera set up is also quite visible here which lines up with all previous rumors and patent filings. Set in a 5+1 configuration, the Amazon smartphone will have a standard camera at the back as well at the front for video calls. In addition to these, four additional cameras will be placed up front for enabling glasses free 3D. These cameras are believed to be low power infrared sensors.

There’s not much known about the specifications but it is expected that the phone will run on Qualcomm silicon and will have 2GB of RAM. A 4.7 inch 720p display will be placed up front and three keys corresponding to power, volume rockers will be placed on the left side of the phone. With the growing number of leaks, it won’t be surprising to see the phone launch as early as summer this year as the rumors suggest with a lower cost variant following it later in the year. The phone will likely still be geared towards Amazon Prime users which would make it more of a US centric proposition, at least at launch. That said, we’re quite excited to see what appears to be a very innovative piece of hardware.
