Apart from the ability to house 2 SIMS i did not find it value for money, for the following reasons
1. Battery life is very poor
2. External interface is samsung specific, comapared to nokia or motorolla where USB ports used are common across devices
3. Its not as user friendly as nokia or motorolla
4. Speaker Volume is less as compared to Motorolla or Sony Erricson
5. I could not find the silence option when you dont want to pick a incoming call immedately

I bought this phone in Chennai for about Rs 12,300 in Chennai in March of this year and have been using it for the past 7 months. My model is complete black in color and not the silver model.

I read the questions that people have been posing on this phone. This is a Dual “GSM” SIM phone. You cannot use a Tata Indicom or Reliance or any other CDMA SIM in this phone. You can use only GSM SIM cards from operators like Airtel, Aircel, BPL, Vodafone etc.

I am not sure if the Battery life is that Bad. After a full charge, I have talked on several continuous conference calls and I can say that I have been on continuous calls for more than 3 to 4 hours and still have battery life remaining at the end of the day.

This is a Tri-Band phone and hence works in the US also. I agree with Prasad’s comment on Interfaces, user friendliness and silent options. The world knows that no one can beat Nokia in user friendliness. In fact I am a diehard fan of Nokia and will buy the first model of dual SIM phone from Nokia. This phone is only for people who do not want to carry 2 phones for 2 SIM cards. There has to be a compromise somewhere. We cannot expect everything immediately. I am atleast thankful to Samsung that they have thought about bringing in this concept and I am definitely happy using this than using a Chinese model phone (Heavy and huge) or to carry 2 phones. Until the top end mobile phone manufacturers start coming out with dual-SIM phones, I guess this model is definitely a good start.

I also use the MP3 Player in this phone to listen to songs and I have been happy using this. The Camera is 3 MP and the clarity has been decent. The User interface is slow (unlike Nokia). You can set different ring tones for both the SIMs so that you know for which SIM you are receiving the call.

Jayant, yes D880 has Bluetooth. You can connect a mono blue tooth headset for Phone conversations and also connect a Bluetooth Stereo Headset (like Moto Rokr) headset to listen to songs from the phone.

No… You cannot move the messages (SMS) that you have received to the Micro SD Card. I just tried it and it is not working. I am not sure about e-mails because I have not enabled that feature in my phone.

Been using the D880 since it was launched.. this is my second phone after i lost the first one.
Like Umashankar rightly said, u cant compare it to Nokia but this is something useful until Nokia comes out with a Dual Sim Phone.

Purpose of this post is i want to share something.

In the D880, if you want to mute the ring of the incoming call, please press the volume key which is on the left side for a couple of seconds.. the ring gets muted but the call dosent Dconnect.

Why not go for SPICE GOLD D-88.
I got it in Pune for Rs.7500/- (1.3Mega Pixel, Video recoreder, FM player with FM recording, Bluetooth, 512MB SD card free and 2GB Extendible & solid GOLD looks with easy GUI )
No problems with me till now….

First you will have to understand that most of the Chinese phones do not have the unique IMEI number. Due to security reasons, it has been made mandatory in India that you are not supposed to use phones without an IMEI number any more. Without an IMEI number, you will not be able to prove that a call was made from a particular instrument as it is easy to clone SIM cards. It is a matter of time before the government starts cracking down on all Chinese phones.

In addition, as mentioned in my post earlier, I have also used a Chinese model dual sim phone before. I did a lot of research in the Gray Market (from where you get these shady Chinese phones) in atleast 3 major cities in India and only after that I bought my previous chinese phone. Trust me, they are nothing but pieces of crap. They become over heated. The amount of heat the chinese instruments generate after a 5 minute call is good enough to fry an omellette on top of the phone (think of the health side effects because of this). In addition, their battery life sucks, you cannot get replacement accessories (including battery and headsets for most of the units), you can never get a proper manual, no proper interfaces and above all, Warranty…. forget it…

No one in this post is saying that Samsung is better than Nokia or Sony. Having said that, why is it that neither Nokia or Sony have come out with a Dial-SIM model so far ? Have you thought about that? So, if you are going to spend 11K on a phone, it has it own good reasons. It depends in individual priorities. Whether someone wants a crappy loud phone or a decent usable phone. The fact is, I do not want people to get an impression that Chinese Phones are legal and can be used.

I will stand corrected if this is not the case.

I completely agree to the comment that dual SIM mobile concept is still a evolving technology and certainly has some more time to go for capturing the indian market.

I would request the users of this phone to let me know how is the manuvering of the touch screen features, do the menus load faster or take some time.

Also, pls let me know the clarity of audio files and how is the clarity of the photos taken by the camera.

I have been using this phone for the last one year. It worked great without any problems. I have not seen any other dual sim with triband/FM/Music player/Camera in one phone. Lots of pros….
Pros: Good talktime & standby time, clear & bright display.
Cons: Low speaker volume, ringer volume is low.
Issues: Worked just over a year with no problems, but this week the display went dead. So not sure about the longevity….

There are no dual sim phones from Nokia. However, Samsung you can get dual sim mobile starting from Rs. 4700/-. S3312 is one such samsung phone. Additionally, there are few more models which you can get starting from 6500/-

In Dual sim, Karbonn has many phones as cheap at Rs 2000/- to 3000/- having many more features.

Karbonn is banned by Govt. of India, as they don’t have IEMI number for the handsets. also they don’t come with any warranty..

You can go through any China handsets or Karbonn or any other such local brands. As per my known, there is no duel sim (GSM+CDMA) with samsung.

I recently purchased a lava kkt25 mobile handset for just rs 3700 from poorvika ….. external apperance not that gr8 but it has 2 mega pixel camera , expandable memory slot upto 8 gb , am using 2 gb card and it is smooth …… has gprs and wap ….. though i have not downloaded settings for it ….. has a bright torch which can be used as night light in case the current goes off and it is very bright like a torch ….. 262 k tft colours screen with 2.2 Inch Screen which is good ….. supports 2 gsm sim cards…… has usb cord which supports mass storage , webcam …..

So i think it’s a pretty good deal for me …… Orion mobile is a bit problamatic as my wife’s phone Orion 920 DS Display got Blanked in just 1 month after purchase ….. I got it serviced for free thanks to the warranty…… still it took 14 Days for it to be serviced…… And you have problems with IMEI Number from Fly mobiles and karbon mobiles ……

So check and get a Mobile ……

rs 1000 to rs 3000 Im not sure ……. try stretching your budget to rs 4500 to rs 5000 ….. you can get some good handsets…..

what is the main purpose for you to get a dual sim ….. if it is just for dual sim ie you want to have 2 sims ….. you can get a dual sim phone with basic vga camera for your budget ….. but if you want a little bit extra features like WAP/GPRS , 1.3 To 2 Mega Pixel Camera you can check out mobiles like Orion , Micromax , Karbonn , Fly , Lava ……

I have a Lava KKT25 which i purchased for rs 3700 ….. Its pretty good when compared to a Korean Piece i purchased from a cheater cock seller in burma bazaar for rs 3200 ……

I just spend rs 500 extra than what i paid for that lousy korean junk piece Ie i paid rs 3700 for the Lava Dual Sim KKT25 Mobile and got 2 MP Camera , Extendable memory upto 8 GB , Motion Sensor , USB cable with mass storage option and Web Camera. It also has WAP/GPRS option although im not sure if i can browse the internet with my Handset.

Don’t go for Chinese or Korean Junk piece Mobiles . It’s just not worth it ….. I had a Chinese Mobile ie Alfatel C500 …… It just had a vga camera …… could not view any pictures properly and some pictures took long time to show in Image viewer or went blank ……

I had it serviced twice and it just kept getting switched off all the time …… it is total waste …… don’t repeat the mistake i made …… I bought it for rs 3200 and spend rs 300 and rs 400 for servicing and it works like junk only……

get a dual sim mobile from any mobile shop like poorvika or univercell or wavetel ….. it will come with a national 1 year warranty and you will be safe……

Chinese or korean mobiles are just not worth it …..

I am surprised that in this discussion of dual sim phones, no body mentioned spice mobiles. Spice mobiles lead this category. They have a number of mobile sets with varying features and costs, all of which are dual sim phones.
M7070 is the best dual sim phone phone from Spice which also has a 5 mp camera (with flash), expandable memory upto 16GB , FM recording etc…
Some other models are M940N, D6666 etc…if you check the spice website you can get atleast 10 handsets(if not more) which has dual sim facility.
