Bing rewards goes live for iOS and Android, Windows Phone curiously left out

Bing Rewards is a program that Microsoft started, to encourage use of its search engine, so that it could dole out rewards for doing so. It was a desperate, yet successful attempt, as people started using it for gaining credits that could be redeemed at Amazon, Fandango or even get you an Xbox console, just through using the rarely used search engine. Till now, the rewards program was exclusively on the desktop, where one could sign in to Bing and use it to gain rewards, but finally, it is now coming down to mobile, through the Bing mobile apps for iOS and Android. Nope, Windows Phone support is apparently “coming soon”, and we might have reasons why. That aside, the Bing rewards feature will give you certains “tasks” to finish, like a game, and once you finish it, you’ll be rewarded with credits of varying amounts depending on the task.

This feature is available only in few countries, and India is not a part of it, yet, but it’s known for giving out reasonable amounts of credits regularly so that dedicated users could actually gain from using Bing.

The above image shows off the dashboard part of the Bing rewards feature that will roll out inside of the official Bing apps on both the platforms. We think this is where Windows Phone lost out. Bing is an integral part of the OS, and is not separate from the core, making it hard for Microsoft to push updates like these. We are sure the next OS update will have it, but it’s unfortunate and despicable that the phone and its dedicated Bing button can’t be put to use right now, when others can do so. It’s being rumoured that only 52% of Windows Phone users actually use the button while the rest actively avoid it. This could have changed that, but alas, this is Microsoft we are talking about.

According to Microsoft, the mobile version of Bing rewards has been launched with only a subset of features on the desktop, so there will be more updates to it and the app as a whole, reportedly. Again, we are hoping that it gets to launch in India, but considering most Microsoft services here are little to non-existent, we are not counting on it.
