Gionee is one of the newest entrants into India’s fairly crowded mid-range Android smartphone space. We’ve got our hands on their brand new product, the Gionee Dream D1. The phone brings an interesting mix of fairly high end specifications at a decidedly low price point.

The phone combines a 4.65inch 720p Super AMOLED display with a Mediatek Quad Core processor running at 1.2Ghz to provide quite an excellent multimedia experience. While it is early to call it the best, we’d say this is one of the better displays we have seen on a mid range smartphone.

The Android Jellybean running smartphone has dual full size SIM card slots and comes bundled with a 16GB memory card. Internally there is 1GB of RAM which should prove sufficient for multitasking. The UI layer unfortunately disappoints due to the random slow downs and TouchWiz like icons. Users get an 8MP camera which can capture video in Full HD. There’s an LED flash as well for night time shots. Over all the Gionee Dream D1 is quite an interesting phone at the Rs. 17,000 price point but you’ll have to wait a bit more as we put it through its paces to bring you the full review. In the meanwhile why not check out our Micromax Canvas HD review which is the closest competitor to the Gionee Dream D1 !
