Tata Docomo’s different pricing strategy. But will it work?

on July 14, 2009 – 5:39 pm27 Comments

Tata Docomo is planning to introduce a 1 second pulse instead of the usual 1 minute pulse offered by other mobile service providers. This means that the consumers will be charged on a per second basis rather than the per minute basis and hence they will end up saving money on the seconds left unused.

Tata Docomo also has come up with an interesting application “How much can you really save? explaining how it works.

Interestingly, even the VAS (value added service) like 24 hour Music, Voice Chat, Caller Tune Search etc are being charged on per second pulse rate.

Though the plan sounds very innovative and unique, it is yet to see whether this pricing strategy works or not. What do you think? Will Tata Docomo’s strategy work or not?

I truly believe that all the steps taken by tata docomo are in the right direction!…right from the revolutionary 1 sec pulse to the VAS, tata docomo seems to have read the market well. there are a huge load of new young customers who enter the market each month and tata docomo seems to be hitting their needs bang on!..surfing through their site one gets the feeling of utter enjoyment thankx to the vibrant and energetic feel of it …as far as pricing and branding is concerned its 10 out of 10 for tata docomo..wish them all the luck

Yes! I’m pretty much sure that it will work. Having said that tariffs alone wont determine company’s fate. There are many other factor. Some of the leading operators (for example Airtel) tariffs are not at all low compared to its competitors, but it still manages to be a in a leading position till now…..guess why? It’s the inertia factor at work there. Just wait and watch…..the future will be certainly exciting!

    Saket,

    1 Sec pulse is awesome.

You just pay for what you use.

Imagine till now we end up paying for the minute even if we say “Hello , I’ll be home in 10mins ”

    It’s just a 5 sec affair.

    Siddharth,

We hope Airtel lowers rates and extends validity for prepaid users.

We are excited about DoCoMo and will try to review DoCoMo and check out Audio Quality , Coverage etc.

@Saket Ya Even I feel that 1 second pulse is amazing, However as Sidharth said, tariff’s are not the only thing which decide the mobile provider, a lot of other factors like service, its network etc also come into picture.

@vikas and siddharth: i completly agree. however thats where i believe tata has another advantage, as it does not have to strive hard to achive brand loyalty as tata is well known for its quality in all the products it is associated with. and i beleive that its new step to target the youth will be succesfull!

Even BPL mobile started like this only. But halfway through they dropped it.
Let us see how far TATA people take it.

It will surely work because. Y would one pay for the whole minute when he just want to talk for 20 seconds.

Its first of its kind – tariff in India, I hope other operators will follow it soon.

This is the first 3G service being rolled – so obviously it will hook us on to the beautifull services. Slowly the pack will catch up with normal rates ….. There is no otherway this can work otherwise.

  • Srijaga

    Hi
1 sec/1 paisa will be very attractive. I had other version
Now other networks like Vodafone, Airtel, Reliance, Idea are charging 50paisa/ minute with special voucher.

IF other networks down the price to 30paisa/minute. Any chance for that?????

  • Nagendra prasad

Is the plan what tata docomo is now giving is it will catch up to normal rates or it will be in sec pulse. If it is in same i think no buddy can beet tata in future.

  • anurag

Hi I`m Anurag and coming to tata docomo the plans and tarrif is good but I need a information about the exact cost of the sim card cause the retailers are not sticking to one single price as one is saying it is for 49/- and one for 75/- and other for 100/- I would be happy if any one gives me the right info about the sim cost and the tarrif plans and i`ll defintely opt for tata docomo

  • Anonymous

i heard from the docomo users that it will charge 2 paise/second after 9 hrs of talking is it real ???????????????

  • Meena

@anurag, I paid Rs 100. The cost of the SIM is 49 and the dealer charged the SIM for another Rs 51. The balance on the SIM was Rs 51.24 and not Rs 5 (that comes in Rs 49 SIM Card). If the dealer charges Rs 75, then he may be charging the SIM for Rs 26 extra (SIM balance could be less than Rs 26, though).

hello, Iam a customer of Reliance GSM from bhopal, with carrying 2 Sims. They both are related to Reliance. This Company Provides Me a 0.19paisa/min on 1 number & .38 paisa/min is on another number. i think that much is too affordable & not as much expensive. everyone can ware about the network of Reliance. so please tell me how can i switch out from Reliance to DOCOMO. If you give me a perfect guidance, that surely i’ll change my mood. please suggest me

  • Vijay

    Hi
1p/sec is a really cool tariff unless, until they change it after a month. I think its a tricky trap to attract the mass. isn’t it ? lets wait & see….

  • Arun

    Hi Guys,
Don’t just rely on tariff alone. Consider the service which is gonna decide the future of DOCOMO in long run. Anyway lets make a try. DOCOMO- “pay for what you use ,its recession time baby” Ha Ha. Hav FUN !!!!
