Android O Developer Preview 4 released, final release coming soon


Android O

Google has released the final Android 8.0 O Developer Preview 4, as it had promised. This has final Android O APIs (API level 26) that was already available with the developer preview 3 along with latest bug fixes and optimizations, stable version of the Android 26.0.0 Support Library. Incremental updates to the SDK, tools, and Android Emulator system images will be available over the next few days.

Google has also introduced a new version of Android Testing Support Library that includes new features like Android Test Orchestrator, Multiprocess Espresso, and more.

Android O pin app shortcut, Notification dots

Android O brings notification channels and dots, shortcut pinning, picture-in-picture, autofill, background execution limits and other important changes in vital system behavior for O apps. It also has adaptive icons, downloadable fonts, and autosizing TextView to simplify app development and minimize APK size.

Android O developer preview 4 images are now available from Android developer website here, you can also get OTA images. It is available for Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Nexus Player. We still don’t have a the name of Android 8.0, but we can expect it to be announced soon. Stable Android O update will be released sometime in Q3 2017.
