    In the USA and UK,
    (1) Network operators strongly influence (even force) consumer acceptance of specific brands and models.
Apple managed to foist their overpriced iPhones, riding on an exclusive partnership with AT&T.
The phenomenon partially explains Nokia’s poor USA brand equity, vis-a-vis manufacturers with network-operator ties,
albeit being the biggest brand in the rest of the world.

    (2) handset manufacturers collect pre-launch orders for handsets, based on canvassing and advertising. This is done before those handsets are proven in the market. This way consumers are influenced to pay in advance, even for handsets untested in the market.

I hope that these consumer unfriendly practices never come to India.
Hope the curse of pre-ordering handsets prior to actual launch, does not infiltrate into the Indian market. And hope that Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance, Tata Indicom and the others don’t find ways to color the independent judgement of the consumer.

The Nokia N8 is a good looking phone. How soon will be available in the hinterland ? Besides, I think if the price is beyond the Rs.20,000/- range it would be asking for too much. Would you please tell me if it has a dual SIM ?
