[Update] – Samsung India spokesperson has told Mashable India that, “The report on Samsung planning to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in India is incorrect“.
Samsung had to discontinue last year’s flagship Galaxy Note 7 over two separate battery issues that caused explosions. Now a report says the company is planning to sell refurbished phones with a lower capacity.
According to Korean outlet Hankyung, Samsung will reduce the battery capacity on the Note 7 between 3,000 and 3,200mAh from the original 3,500mAh battery. The company is looking to sell refurbished units of the Galaxy Note 7 in India and Vietnam to make up for the heavy losses. Samsung currently has around 2.5 million units in inventory after around 200,000 units were used for identification of the issue that resulted in explosion cases regarding the phone, added the report.
Samsung is said to finish refurbishing the devices by May and will start selling the phones by June.
