If you compare the prices in SG with USA price you would notice that they are slightly more expensive. We have not taken into the tax component. The US has roughly around 10% tax and Singapore has GST which is 7%.

One thing to take note of, the prices listed in SIngapore have taxes included. This means that the price of iPad in Singapore is just USD$530.42.

The prices in the US however, does not include the tax, which means that the price of the iPad in US is USD 548.9 (499 + 10% tax).

What about GST in Singapore ?

      • tJ

The gst is included in the price. all prices in singapore are “what you see is what you pay”.
for example, in the singapore online apple store, try adding any items in the cart.
the price listed in the store is what you pay in the end (although currently the ipad is not on sale at the online store, weirdly).

Oh Apple how we love you.

FYI, there are states in the USA which do not have a sales tax/VAT/GST such as Oregon. So, what you see is what you pay on apple.com. If you want to buy iPad cheaper elsewhere, don’t forget you have to factor in airplane ticket! But then again, if you are on vacation in Hong Kong, all Apple products are more than 7% cheaper there due to the current favorable SGD to HKD exchange rate. Also, you can bargain at some of the retailers there!

With the lowest end model priced at $728 and highest end model 64GB wifi + 3G priced at only $1228, we are one of the country which have the cheapest price for the apple iPad outside USA.

There is no state in the USA charging 10% sales tax. California has the highest rate in the US and it’s 8.25%, but most people in the US buy stuff online and pay no sales tax. Singapore Post has a service called v-post that gives you a tax-free US address in Oregon to ship all your stuff to. I’m not suggesting it would be worth it after shipping costs for an Apple iPad, but there are lots of things you can get in the US for 50% to 90% off the price in Singapore! Stay informed so you don’t get ripped off!
