Periscope for Android and iOS updated with revamped Global Map, seek through in replays and more


Periscope 1.3 for Android

Periscope for Android got updated to version 1.3 earlier this week that brought a revamped Global Map feature and option to seek through a replay, now these features are available for iOS users as well in the latest update released today. In Global Map you can now zoom into an area to view more broadcasts, compared to 250 broadcasts earlier, and it also shows replays in the last 24 hours. The Android app also gets pinch to zoom feature for broadcasts.

Periscope 1.3 for iOS 3D Touch Shortcuts

The update also brings 3D touch shortcuts feature for iPhone 6s and 6s plus users so that they can start a broadcast, search people, teleport  or broadcast mutuals, just by pressing down on the Periscope app icon. The web version recently got updated with seek bar for replays on the bottom to jump to a particular time. Check out the complete changelog below.

New features in Periscope v1.3 for Android and iOS

  • SKIP AHEAD IN REPLAYS: When watching a replay, press and hold to instantly jump into any part of the broadcast. You can even drag up and down to change the seek speed.
  • MAPS 2.0: Replays (with location turned on) now appear on the map, giving you a 24 hours perspective of any specific geographic location. Zoom further into an area to reveal more broadcasts.
  • New “Trending” section in the People Tab highlights an evolving list of recently popular broadcasters.
  • ZOOMING: Pinch to zoom while broadcasting. (Only for Android)

New Periscope features specifically for iOS 

  • Application Shortcuts for people with an iPhone 6s or 6s plus. Use 3D Touch on the Periscope icon to start a broadcast, search for broadcasters, or teleport somewhere in the world.
  • Thumbnails for live broadcast update periodically to more accurately reflect what is currently happening.
  • Fixed a bug that would occasionally upload the wrong picture when sharing a screenshot capture on Twitter.
