Facebook’s news app Notify tipped to launch next week

In August, it was reported that Facebook will launch a standalone mobile news app. Now, a fresh report from the Financial Times states that the news app will be launched as early as next week and it will be called as ‘Notify’.

It will send alerts to users for news stories along with a URL to the news article on that publication’s website. The report indicates that users will be able to look at feature content from across all matters of media, including print, digital, and video. Facebook has already teamed up with nine news publishers to launch “Instant Articles” that publishes their content directly to the social network’s mobile news feeds.

The Notify news app from Facebook looks like a move to compete with Twitter’s recently introduced Moments feature that curates news and live events.
