“Introduction of ‘scan and sell’ significantly simplifies the process for sellers to list their products on the platform, thereby enabling them to maximize the impact of reach and scale offered by Snapdeal. We believe that mobile is a key contributor to the growth of ecommerce and we have been continuously working on enhancing the seller and buyer experience on the mobile. The addition of this hassle-free mobile products listing feature for a best-in-class seller experience is keeping in line with our philosophy of creating life changing experiences for our sellers.”

said Ankit Khanna, Senior Vice President, Products Management, Snapdeal.com in a press release.

Snapdeal claims that Scan and Sell is the first such initiative by any Indian e-commerce platform to simplify and automate the process of listing products for sale. Snapdeal has tied up with GS1, a leading global organization dedicated to the design and implementation of global standards in order to assist in the creation and maintenance of large volumes of barcode data required to cater to the wide assortment of products available on its platform.

Some of the key benefits of the Scan & Sell feature are that it automates the system to reduce errors caused while manually listing the products and sellers can scan, list and sell on the go. The scan & sell feature is currently available for select assortment of branded products in electronics and fashion categories. The company plans to extend this to the entire products portfolio in the coming months.
