Meta rolls out Your algorithm to customize Facebook Feed and Reels

Meta Facebook Your Algorithm

Meta has introduced new AI-powered tools for Facebook that let users interact directly with the systems that rank and recommend content on the platform. The tools allow users to express their preferences in natural language.

Facebook gets tools to customize recommendations

The Your algorithm feature provides a dedicated space where users can add and manage topics they want to see in Feed and Reels. They can access it through the three-dot menu and describe their interests in their own words.

Your algorithm lets users manage interests

Users can add topics they want to see more often and manage their interests through this feature. Facebook uses this input alongside existing signals from their activity to fine-tune recommendations.

More options for post feedback

Users can provide feedback on posts in Feed and Reels by selecting Interested or Not interested. Meta may then ask follow-up questions to gather more details about their preferences. Users can specify:

  • What they liked or disliked about a post.
  • What they want to see more of in Feed and Reels.
  • What they want to see less of in their recommendations.
  • This input allows recommendations to update in real time and adapt within the same session.

How AI adjusts recommendations

Facebook’s ranking systems use thousands of signals to infer users’ interests from their activity, including the posts they like and comment on and the content they watch. Large language models (LLMs) can interpret natural-language input, including the interests, context and intent behind users’ requests.

By combining this freeform text with existing information about users’ interests and engagement, the ranking systems can tailor Feed and Reels recommendations to their stated preferences and respond to what they want to see at a given time.

Availability

Meta is rolling out Your algorithm and the expanded feedback options for Facebook Feed and Reels. The updated three-dot menu on every post provides access to these customization tools.
