Airtel deploys over 3400 new 5G sites in Maharashtra and Goa

Bharti Airtel has deployed more than 3,400 new 5G network sites across Maharashtra and Goa over the past 12 months. The infrastructure expansion is aimed at increasing network capacity, geographic coverage, and data speeds for the company’s user base in the region.

Scope of Expansion

The recent rollout spans 36 districts, extending 5G connectivity to an estimated 22 million customers. The deployment encompasses a mix of urban centers, developing towns, and rural villages. According to the company, specific focus has been placed on improving infrastructure in historically underserved districts—such as Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, and Sindhudurg—to bridge regional connectivity gaps and support broader digital inclusion.

Deployment Metrics and Target Areas

Airtel reported an installation rate of approximately nine new sites per day during this 12-month period. The company’s investments have targeted increased network density across various high-traffic and remote topographies, including:

  • Rural and semi-urban villages
  • Major highways and transit routes
  • Border areas
  • Key economic and cultural corridors

This enhanced network footprint is intended to support the digital requirements of individual citizens, micro-businesses, educational institutions, and government bodies. The upgraded infrastructure facilitates higher bandwidth activities such as video streaming, remote learning, online work, and digital payments.

In conjunction with the network upgrades, Airtel has highlighted a ₹399 recharge plan for smartphone users in the Maharashtra and Goa circles. The package provides unlimited data, accommodating users who require consistent internet access for data-intensive tasks without standard usage caps.

Regarding the expansion, Rabi Shankar Mishra, CEO – Maharashtra & Goa, Bharti Airtel, said:

Data demand across Maharashtra and Goa continues to grow rapidly, and our focus is to stay ahead by consistently strengthening our network. With the addition of 3,400+ new 5G sites, we are delivering faster speeds, wider coverage, and a more reliable experience for over 22 million customers. Our continued investments, especially in underserved districts, reflect Airtel’s commitment to bridging connectivity gaps and powering the region’s digital growth with a future-ready network.
