Google has updated its AI Studio platform with an upgraded “vibe coding” experience aimed at building production-ready applications. The update introduces the Antigravity coding agent along with support for multiplayer apps, external libraries, secure authentication, and persistent sessions. It also adds built-in Firebase integration to enable backend services such as data storage and user sign-in within the same environment.
AI Studio new features
The update focuses on enabling full application development from prompts, with support for real-time features, backend setup, modern web tools, and external integrations.
Key features include:
- Antigravity coding agent: Maintains deeper context of project structure and chat history to enable accurate multi-step code edits and faster iteration
- Multiplayer experiences: Supports development of real-time multiplayer apps, collaborative workspaces, and shared tools with instant connectivity
- Database and authentication setup: Detects when apps require backend support and provisions Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication after user approval
- Firebase integration: Enables secure data storage and Google-based user authentication within apps
- Modern web tools support: Uses and installs required libraries such as Framer Motion and Shadcn for UI components, animations, and icons
- External API integration: Allows use of developer-provided API credentials to connect services such as databases, payment systems, and Google services including Maps
- Secrets Manager: Stores API keys and credentials securely within the Settings tab when required
- Cross-session continuity: Saves project progress across devices and sessions, allowing users to resume work later
- Improved agent capability: Handles more complex development tasks using simpler prompts with better contextual understanding
- Next.js support: Adds native support alongside React and Angular, selectable in the Settings panel
- External library installation: Automatically installs required third-party libraries during app development
Availability
The updated experience is available in Google AI Studio. It has been used internally to build a large number of applications over recent months. Google is also working on additional integrations, including Workspace support for Drive and Sheets, and a feature to move projects from AI Studio to Antigravity with a single action.
