Anthropic has introduced a feature that enables Claude to generate charts, diagrams, and other visualizations directly within chat responses. The capability is currently available in beta and displays visual explanations alongside text during conversations.
The update builds on “Imagine with Claude,” a concept previewed by Anthropic last fall that demonstrated how the assistant could generate visuals in real time without requiring code.
Interactive visuals generated during conversations
With this update, Claude can create charts, diagrams, and other visual representations directly within its responses while discussing a topic. These visuals appear inline in the conversation rather than in a separate panel.
Claude may automatically generate a visual when it determines that a diagram or chart could help explain a topic. Users can also request visuals directly through prompts such as:
- Ask Claude to draw a diagram explaining a concept
- Request a visualization showing how something changes over time
Once a visual is created:
- Users can request changes or refinements through follow-up prompts
- The visualization updates as the conversation continues
Examples described by the company include generating a curve to demonstrate how compound interest changes over time or creating an interactive view of the periodic table where users can explore additional details by selecting elements.
Temporary visuals designed for explanations
The charts and diagrams created during conversations serve a different role from Claude’s artifacts feature.
Artifacts are persistent outputs generated by Claude, such as documents or tools, that can be shared or downloaded as finished work. By contrast, the charts, diagrams, and visualizations created during conversations are temporary. They appear inline during a discussion and may change or disappear as the conversation evolves.
According to Anthropic, these visuals are intended to support explanations while a topic is being discussed rather than function as standalone files.
Additional improvements to Claude responses
The visualization capability is part of a broader set of updates to Claude’s response formats.
Anthropic has introduced structured layouts for certain types of queries. For example, recipe responses are now displayed with ingredient lists and step-by-step instructions. Weather-related queries can also include visual elements within the response.
Claude can also interact with several external applications directly within conversations, including Figma, Canva, and Slack.
Availability
Anthropic stated that the visualization feature is enabled by default and is available across all Claude plan types.
