Samsung Galaxy M17e 5G to launch in India on March 17

Samsung has announced the upcoming release of the Galaxy M17e 5G, expanding its widely used M series lineup in the Indian market after the launch of the Galaxy M17 in October last year.

Scheduled for launch on March 17, the device is aimed at younger consumers and focuses on battery capacity, display functionality, and long-term software support.

Display and Design

The Galaxy M17e 5G features a 6.7-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen includes Adaptive Brightness with High Brightness Mode (HBM) to adjust visibility based on surrounding lighting conditions.

In terms of build, the device measures 8.2mm in thickness and utilizes a Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) back panel. It incorporates a key island design for button access and carries an IP54 rating, offering basic resistance against dust ingress and water splashes. It will be available in two color options: Vibe Violet and Blitz Blue.

Hardware and Performance

The smartphone is powered by the octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G processor, alongside an Arm Mali-G57 GPU. The integrated modem supports multiple 5G bands for nationwide connectivity.

To support hardware operations, the device is equipped with a 6000mAh battery. The battery management system works in tandem with One UI 8 optimizations, which includes putting unused applications into sleep mode to reduce power consumption.

Camera Specifications

The rear camera module is equipped with a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor utilized for bokeh portrait effects. The front-facing camera features an 8MP sensor for video calls and selfies.

Software and AI Integration

Out of the box, the Galaxy M17e 5G runs on Samsung’s One UI 8.0, based on Android 16. Interface updates include:

  • Large Folders: Designed for easier app organization on the home screen.
  • Now Bar & Live Notifications: Displays real-time updates and active tasks (like timers or media playback) directly on the lock screen.

The software also integrates artificial intelligence features, including the Google Gemini AI assistant for text generation and summarization, as well as Google’s Circle to Search functionality, which allows users to search for on-screen items without switching applications.

Notably, Samsung has committed to providing six generations of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates for this device.

It will be available from Amazon.in, in addition to Samsung India online store and offline stores after the launch.
