Google has announced the public preview of Fitbit’s AI-powered personal health coach, developed using Gemini to deliver individualized support across fitness, sleep, and wellness. The new experience combines multiple coaching capabilities into a single interface designed to help users better understand and improve their overall health.
Google stated that the preview phase is intended to gather user feedback and refine the system before a broader rollout, with regular updates planned as new features are added or adjusted.
Fitbit personal health coach
The Fitbit personal health coach uses Gemini’s conversational intelligence to interpret Fitbit data, offer insights, and suggest personalized actions.
At setup, users begin with a short 5–10 minute conversation—either through text or microphone input—to outline their health goals and preferences. Based on these details, the coach creates customized plans and adapts them over time. This introductory step is optional and can be revisited later.
Main Features
Today Dashboard
The “Today” section provides timely information throughout the day, such as after waking up, completing a workout, or preparing for sleep.

Fitness Tracking
Users can view weekly progress, follow personalized fitness plans, and monitor core metrics including weekly cardio load. The coach can also create new routines or modify existing ones based on user input, activity levels, and available equipment.

Health Metrics Hub
Vital information—including heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, and weight—is consolidated in a single dashboard. The coach can identify data trends, compare performance over time, and highlight relationships between metrics like cardio load and sleep quality.

Ask Coach
An Ask Coach button allows users to engage the AI at any time to ask questions, review data, or seek clarification on health and fitness topics.

Use Cases
Fitness Coaching and Goal Setting
The coach can build or adjust multi-week fitness plans, modify schedules, and provide guidance on exercise form or goal setting.
Examples include:
- Create a 30-minute upper body workout using 20lb dumbbells.
- Adjust my plan — my knee is sore.
- Set a new goal to run a 10K in three months.
The system retains feedback from past workouts to fine-tune future recommendations.
Sleep Improvement
The AI can analyze sleep trends, highlight patterns, and compare sleep quality with demographic data. It can also show how activity or recovery metrics influence rest and offer actionable steps to improve sleep performance.
Health and Wellness Guidance
The coach provides general information and insights related to health, nutrition, and wellness.
Example interactions include:
- How much protein should I eat daily?
- What are common symptoms of menopause?
- Summarize what you know about me.
These responses combine educational content with Fitbit-collected health data.
Availability
Beginning October 28, 2025, the Fitbit Personal Health Coach public preview will be available to eligible Fitbit Premium users in the United States.
The rollout will start with Android devices, followed by iOS in the coming weeks. Google says it will continue to refine the experience based on early feedback.
