Meta rolls out Fan engagement tools on Facebook for creators

Meta has added new tools on Facebook to enhance fan engagement, allowing fans to connect with creators and with each other. The platform now offers Fan Challenges and Custom Top Fan Badges, providing ways for fans to create content, participate in interactive activities, and gain recognition, while helping creators foster engaged communities.

Fan Challenges: Participate and Create

Fan Challenges allow creators to launch prompts for fans to create and share content. Challenges can focus on everyday topics like routines or recipes, or larger events such as product launches, milestones, or special campaigns. Fans can join by clicking the challenge hashtag on a creator’s post, Reel, or another fan’s submission.

Each challenge has a dedicated homepage, displaying all entries for fans to explore and interact with each other. A leaderboard highlights entries with the most reactions, recognizing top participants.

Entertainment creator Kalen Allen has used Fan Challenges to engage his community, encouraging fans to share their dreams and support each other. Over the past three months, fans have submitted more than 1.5 million entries, generating comments and reactions from over 10 million people, helping creators build buzz and momentum around specific topics.

Fan Challenges can run from short seven-day bursts to multi-month campaigns, providing creators flexibility to match the timing to their audience. Challenges are available globally to creators with at least 100,000 followers.

Custom Top Fan Badges: Recognize Your Most Engaged Fans

Facebook’s Top Fan Badges allow creators to reward highly engaged followers. Standard badges are available to creators with at least 100 followers, while creators with 1 million or more followers can assign custom badges with nicknames for their most loyal fans.

Fans earn badges by regularly engaging with creators’ content. Once accepted, badges appear next to their comments on the creator’s posts and can also be displayed on the fan’s profile.

Well-known creators like Cardi B, Ed Sheeran, and J Balvin have created custom fan badges with names such as Bardi Gang, Sheerio, and La Familia to recognize their most engaged followers.

New metrics in the Professional Dashboard allow creators to track the number of top fans over time, offering insight into engagement levels and audience loyalty.
