Netflix has announced a refreshed TV experience, introducing a redesigned homepage, improved recommendations, and new search options. The update aims to make finding shows and movies easier and more intuitive for users.
Eunice Kim, Netflix’s Chief Product Officer, and Elizabeth Stone, Chief Technology Officer, shared details about the updated design. Kim noted, “The new Netflix TV experience is still familiar but improved, helping members quickly find great content.” Stone added, “Netflix combines cutting-edge technology with entertainment, enabling our reach, recommendations, and fan engagement.”
Kim explained that the redesign focuses on flexibility for Netflix’s wide range of content, responsiveness to user needs, and highlighting exciting moments. The update builds on Netflix’s previous technological developments, such as Open Connect, its content delivery network, and personalized recommendations.
New TV Features
The updated TV experience introduces several key changes:
- Easier Discovery: Labels such as “Emmy Award Winner” and “#1 in TV Shows” are now prominently displayed to help viewers make quicker viewing choices.
- Accessible Shortcuts: Shortcuts for Search and My List have moved to the top of the screen, making them easier to find and use.
- Real-Time Recommendations: Homepage suggestions now better reflect users’ current moods and interests.
- Modern Design: The homepage features a clean, updated design that aligns with Netflix’s overall viewing experience.
Mobile Experience Updates
Netflix is also adding updates to its mobile experience:
- AI-Powered Search: An opt-in beta feature on iOS allows users to search using natural, conversational phrases such as “I want something funny and upbeat.”
- Vertical Feed for Discovery: A new test feature will show a scrollable vertical feed of clips from shows and movies. Users can tap to watch, save to My List, or share with friends.
Stone noted the updates will help Netflix evolve faster, stating, “This new TV experience allows us to innovate more easily, ensuring we keep connecting members with shows, movies, and games they love.”
Availability
The redesigned TV homepage will be available globally in the coming weeks and months. Mobile features, including the AI search and vertical feed, are in early testing and will expand gradually.
