Matter is now available for Amazon Echo devices

Amazon promised last month that it would provide a top-notch Matter customer experience by the end of the year. Amazon announced today that the first stage of its Matter rollout has been widely launched.

Amazon claims that the availability of Matter over Wi-Fi for 17 different Echo devices*, plugs, switches, and light bulbs with Android setup has given tens of millions of Alexa users around the world more options for connecting their devices.

Its staged approach lets us start rolling out Matter support for the most common device types while continuing to do interoperability, stability, and longevity testing with our partners to make sure that users have a smooth and high-quality Alexa experience.

Customers care about quality, but they also care about having a choice. Amazon said that there are now more than 30,000 “Works with Alexa” devices that people can choose from to make their own smart home.

Now, with Matter, they will have even more products to choose from as they build the smart home that’s right for them. Amazon said that Matter devices will work well with other smart home devices, so customers can enjoy a consistent and familiar smart home experience with Alexa.
