Apple confirms acquisition of music recognition app Shazam for $400 million

Just as it was reported last week, Apple indeed has acquired London-based music recognition service Shazam and has finally announced the news on Monday just as expected. Apple’s acquisition aims at integrating Shazam’s music recognition capabilities into the company’s music service. 

Furthermore, sources reveal that Apple Shazam acquisition has been in the news for about five months which comes after Shazam had been in talks with Snapchat and Spotify. Apple usually doesn’t reveal how it is going to use the acquisition in its favor, but with Shazam, there are broad possibilities for both the companies to work on.

Shazam till date has over 1 Billion app downloads and specializes in recognizing music clips from its large database. It also provides more information to users about the music and the artists and also capable of redirecting users to other sites where you can download and listen to the music. Though Apple didn’t disclose the value of the acquisition, many sources point to a possible $400 million.
