Weekly Roundup – Samsung Galaxy Note8, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A, Micromax Canvas Infinity and more

This week Samsung announced its flagship Galaxy Note8, Xiaomi introduced the Redmi Note 5A and also launched its lifestyle products in India, Micromax launched the Canvas Infinity, Meizu unveiled M6 Note,  Nokia 6 went on sale in the country and more from this week in our weekly roundup.

Samsung this week announced Galaxy Note8 smartphone at its New York event It comes with a 6.3-inch Quad HD+  Infinity Display – an end-to-end, bezel-less screen, has a 12-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture and wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel secondary camera with f/2.4 aperture and telephoto lens offering 2x optical zoom, OIS, Iris scanner, fingerprint sensor,  heart rate monitor and is also water resistant up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes with IP68 ratings. It also comes with an improved S-Pen.

It is priced at $929 (Rs. 59,502 approx.) in the U.S., £869 (US$ 1110 / Rs. 71,190 approx.) in UK and €999 (US$ 1179 / Rs. 75,550 approx.) in Europe, is available for pre-order in most countries and ships from September 15th.

Xiaomi announced Redmi Note 5A, budget smartphone in two versions. Both the phones have a 5.5-inch HD screen and come with a 13-megapixel rear camera, but the standard version is powered by a Snapdragon 425 and has 2GB RAM, while the top-end version comes with Snapdragon 435 with 3GB or 4GB RAM, also has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash and a fingerprint sensor on the back.

These have dedicated dual SIM slots and a 3080mAh battery. It comes in Champagne Gold, Rose Gold and Platinum Silver colors and starts at 699 yuan (US$ 104 / Rs. 6,720 approx.) for the base version and goes up to 1199 yuan (US$ 180 / Rs. 11,530 approx.) for the high-end version.

Xiaomi launched its Mi Business Backpack and Mi Crewneck T-shirt, the company’s latest Mi Ecosystem products in India for Rs. 1499 and Rs. 549, respectively.

Micromax launched Canvas Infinity with 5.7-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass screen with 18:9 aspect ratio and minimal bezels offering 83% screen-to-body ratio. It is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 Mobile Platform, runs on Android 7.1 (Nougat) that is upgradable to Android 8.0 (Oreo), has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera that also has an LED flash.

It has a fingerprint sensor on the back, removable metal back cover, dedicated dual micro SIM slots along with a microSD card slot. It also has a 2900mAh removable battery. It comes in Black color, priced at Rs. 9,999 and will be available exclusively from Amazon.in starting September 1st.

Meizu announced M6 Note with 5.5-inch 1080p 2.5D curved glass display, Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 Mobile platform, 12-megapixel primary rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, dual-tone quad-LED flash and dual PD focusing technology for fast focus in just 0.0.3 seconds along with a secondary 5-megapixel rear camera to capture depth information,  16-megapixel camera on the front, mtouch 2.1 fingerprint sensor, metal unibody design and a 4000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

It comes in Black, Blue and Gold colors and is priced at 1099 yuan (US$ 165 / Rs. 10570 approx.) for the base 3GB RAM with 16GB storage version and the top-end 4GB RAM with 64GB storage version costs 1699 yuan (US$ 255/ Rs. 16,350 approx.). It will be available in China from September 2nd.

It also introduced EP52 Bluetooth stereo headset with Free-Edge diaphragm design, improved sound quality and endurance and promises 8 hours of battery life. It is also waterproof with IPX5 ratings. It uses Qualcomm CSR8645 Bluetooth 4.1 chip with support for Qualcomm aptX audio. It comes in Red with Black color and is priced at 269 yuan (US$ 40 / Rs. 2590 approx.).

Vivo launched Y69, a mid-range selfie-focused smartphone with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with soft flash in India. It packs a 5.5-inch HD 2.5d curved glass display, is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek MT6750 processor and a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, similar to the Y66 that was launched earlier this year, but this runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) and has a fingerprint sensor on the front.

It comes in Champagne Gold and Matte Black colors, is priced at Rs. 14,990 and will be available from Flipkart, Amazon as well as offline stores in India from September 1st.

OnePlus launched the Slate Gray 8GB RAM with 128GB version of the the OnePlus 5 smartphone in the country exclusively on Amazon.in priced at Rs. 37,999, that joins the Midnight Black version.

Gionee launched X1 with a 5-inch HD display, quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor, Android 7.0 (Nougat), 8-megapixel cameras on the front and back, fingerprint sensor and a 3000mAh battery. It comes in Gold and Black colors and is priced at Rs. 8,999.

LG launched the K8 2017 in India. It has a 5-inch HD 2.5D curved glass display, is powered by 1.25GHz quad-core processor, runs on old Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), comes with 4G VoLTE support, has a fingerprint sensor and packs a 2500mAh removable battery. It comes in Blue and Gold colors and is priced at an MRP of Rs. 11,000, but it is available at an MOP of Rs. 9999 from retail stores.

Swipe Technologies launched Swipe Neo Power, a  budget 4G smartphone with VoLTE support that ha sa 4-inch FWVGA display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), 512MB RAM, 4GB of storage and a 2500mAh battery for Rs. 2999. It is available from online retailers, including Amazon.in.

Taiwan-based computer maker Acer has announced the new Acer Nitro 5 Spin, a convertible notebook that serves the purpose for casual gamers.

Itcomes with an all-aluminum chassis with a black brushed hairline finish and red accents, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics, sports a 15.6-inch IPS display and has a PCIe SSD of up to 512GB capacity onboard. It will be available in October in North America starting at $999 (approx Rs. 64,036) and in EMEA starting at €1,199 (approx Rs. 90,240).

HP at the Gamescom 2017 introduced its Omen X gaming laptop with support unlocked CPUs for overclocking and factory-overclocked GPUs and memory options for gaming enthusiasts. It has 17-inch 4K display option for high-resolution gaming or 120Hz 1080p display options for fast refresh rates and smooth visuals, NVIDIA G-Sync enabled for reduced image tearing. It also has single access panel to HDD, SSDs, and RAM, so all end-user replaceable components are easily accessible. It  will be available later this year starting at $1,999 (Rs. 1,28,200 approx.).
