Apple is said to be developing a video editing app to work on iOS devices, according to a latest report from Bloomberg.

The company is reportedly working on a video sharing and video editing app that will run on recent iPhone and iPad. Apple is planning to release this app by 2017. With the new video app, the company is aimed at competing with the likes of Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, people familiar with Apple’s strategy told the publication.

The video editing app will let iOS device users to capture, edit, apply filters and share a video to social media. Joe Weil who was hired in December 2015 after serving as president of a video production company, will be leading the team working on the video editing app.

There is a possibility that instead of a standalone app, Apple may include the video sharing and editing feature into the existing camera app. Finally, the report concludes saying that like any other Apple product in development, the app project could be axed.
