Facebook Android app gets Tor support

Facebook has announced that it has added Tor support for its Android app via the Orbot proxy app. The social network added support for Tor-enabled browsers in 2014 and now it is bringing that same support to Android devices.

This change increased the security of Tor connections to Facebook by eliminating steps that required traffic to travel beyond the cryptographic assurances provided by the Tor network.

In order to get started users will have to install the Orbot app from the Play Store  or the Orbot F-Droid repository which is required for connecting to Tor. After that you will have to head to Facebook’s App Settings to enable the feature using a new preference switch. For those unaware, Tor is an encrypted network that can route your traffic through multiple layers to hide its origin. Facebook says that it’s releasing the feature “over the next few days”
