Google Translate to get in-app translation feature for Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Google has announced that it is bringing in-app translation to Android 6.0 Marshmallow users starting this week. The Translate app will be able to translate text into the native language right inside some of their favorite apps.

You will only need to download the Google Translate app on their Marshmallow devices that will be able to translate between 90 languages directly from within any app that uses the Android selection tool. To use the in-app translation, simply highlight the text that you want to translate and then hit the Translate button that pops up. The text will be translated in a pop up window, and you can choose to replace your text with the translated text from there. Google showed off the feature working in WhatsApp, TripAdvisor and LinkedIn.

All Android apps that utilize Android’s text selection feature (the ability for the user to select text to copy, etc) will already support the feature. However, Google has outlined a method for translation support for those developers that have their own text selection behavior in their apps. The feature is being rolled out for Android 6.0 Marshmallow devices.

More than 500 million people translate over 100 billion words a day on Google Translate. With updates like this one, plus features like conversation mode and instant camera translation, we’re making Translate available anywhere you need it.
