ICICI bank now lets you do banking transactions using voice

ICICI bank is going tech savvy again. The bank has launched a voice recognition service, which can identify and authenticate a customer, based on their speech patterns.

ICICIBANK

ICICI bank customers will be able to execute banking transactions through the Bank’s call centre in a quick, secure and convenient manner. This is the first such service offered by a bank in the country and will be available to over 3.3 crore savings account and credit card customers of the bank. The voice recognition technology works on voice prints that will comprise about 100 characteristics such as voice modulation, speed, accent, pronunciation, etc, which are unique to an individual. These will be stored in the customer’s account and will be used to authenticate the details every time they call back.

“We have noticed that the customers, especially those who use smart phones, find it difficult to enter the 16 digit card number and the 4 digit PIN with accuracy and at a reasonable speed. We wanted to offer them a secure and hands-free alternative to the traditional on-screen commands on smart phones. The voice recognition service has the potential to increase security and convenience.”

said Chanda Kochhar, MD & CEO, ICICI Bank.

Until now bank customers enter card numbers, answer security questions and enter a personal identification number (PIN) to carry out a phone banking transaction. Last month, ICICI bank launched “Tap n Pay” NFC based payment service. Also, earlier in January the bank teamed up with Twitter to launch icicibankpay that allows money transfer or checking account balance via the micro blogging site.
