All you need to know about Microsoft’s Windows 10 event last night

Microsoft’s Windows 10 event last night started off slow, but the 2-3 hours long presentation picked up pace when the company made surprise announcements, one after the other. Surely, there was a lot to digest, so we bring you a really concise version of the event in 10 points, which will give you an idea of what the event was all about.

1. Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for all Windows Phone 8, Windows 8 AND 7 users in the first year of its commercial existence.

2. Windows 10 gets the action center for handling notifications, a new windowed system for apps and the start menu that uses continuum for different form factors.

3. Cortana comes to the PC, has additional features like system wide dictation.

4. Windows 10 for phones – Design changes include: Wallpapers in the background, a new settings page, new icons and app bar experience, more in sync with Windows 10 on the PC with universal apps and a lot more.

5. Codenamed Spartan, the new web browser from Microsoft features annotation by Keyboard or pen, a reading view and a new look and feel.

6. Office for touch devices will be an Universal app that works across all the Windows 10 form factors, including phones, with the same rich functionality that we expect.

7. New Universal apps for common things like Photos, mail, calendar people, music etc. that work across all devices will have synced data on OneDrive

8. New Xbox app on Windows 10 lets you post screencaps of any PC game to the XBLive social network.

9. Xbox One games can be streamed to PCs in your home.

10. Windows 10 is the first holographic computing platform, with specific APIs for the developers. The holograms are universal Windows apps, tailored for the first holographic computer, Microsoft Hololens.
