Facebook has tweaked its Facebook Messenger App for iOS with some important features. The 5.0 update now enables users to send and receive videos which then can be played from the app itself.

facebook messenger iOSWith the latest update Facebook Messenger now gets a revamped messaging interface which can be used to share different media files like text, photo, video and stickers. Most importantly, the iOS app lets users take photos from within the app, that means more selfies can be taken and sent without leaving the app.

Stickers which are one of the important components of the Messenger can now be easily downloaded by the recipient by simply tapping and holding. To enable easy access, the icons for camera, stickers, voice notes have all been placed under the text field. Finally the app gets improved search which lets users search for individuals and group easily.

The Facebook Messenger 5.0 update is available now for iOS and will roll out for Android later this week. Last week Facebook announced in its earnings call that Facebook Messenger has over 200 million  monthly active users. In March, the service added free voice calling in India on Android and iPhone and launched itself on Windows Phone.

Social mobile messaging space is getting extremely crowded and competitive and hence we can see players striving hard to attract users to their platform with such updates.
