Instagram takes on Snapchat with Instagram Stories

Instagram is taking its photo game up a notch with a new feature which well makes it similar to Snapchat. Dubbed as Instagram Stories, the latest feature allows users to share photos and videos that lasts for 24 hours before disappearing.

Similar to Snapchat, you can doodle on your photo, add text and emojis.  You can upload different clips and shots into the same Story which then can be shared with anyone on Instagram. Stories from friends and popular accounts that you follow will be present in a bar at the top of your feed. These accounts will have a colorful ring around it indicating that have new Stories. Tapping right will advance you to the next image or video in a story while tapping left will take you to the previous one and swiping left will skip to the next Story in your feed.

Unlike regular posts, you cannot likes or comment on Instagram Stories and will have to use Instagram Direct and send a private message to that person. If you set your account to private, your story is visible only to your followers. You can save your individual Story slides before or after posting them

Instagram said in the blog post,

Instagram has always been a place to share the moments you want to remember. Now you can share your highlights and everything in between, too.

Instagram will be rolling out the stories feature globally on iOS and Android over the next few weeks.
