The Z series includes Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. As recently launched Z5 series is a flagship, it already comes equipped with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop straight out of the box. Sony said that the update will be over the air and has asked users to look out for notifications.

Sony rolled out Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop) update for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact smartphones in March this year. The company had announced in June that it will release the 5.1 Lollipop update to Xperia Z series along with T2 Ultra starting July. Xperia Z3 and Z2 series received the update in July as promised. The OTA update will hit the older Xperia devices soon and you will be notified  once it arrives. Users can also check for the update by manually heading to the Settings-About Device-Software Update-update. “Check for Updates” option.

Sony has not bundled the Stagefright update along with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and hence it may roll out a Stagefright security patch fix separately via an update in the near future.
