Google working on “Pony Express” service to pay bills directly from Gmail

Google is working on a tool that will allow Gmail users to manage, pay, and receive all their bills directly within Gmail according to a report from Re/Code. Dubbed as “Pony Express” the service is expected to roll out in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Pony Express will include the ability to share bills with other Gmail users, bring up customer service information for a provider, and support for taking a photo of a paper document and archiving it in Pony Express. The service will ask Gmail users to provide personal information such as name, address and partial and full social security number to a third-party company which will then verify the user’s identity. After authentication, users will start receiving bills in a particular folder of Gmail or the Inbox by Gmail, from where they can pay them directly

Users might also have to provide information such as account/ credit/ debit card number or something similar to get started, notes the report. They will be able to link a bank account or a debit card to their Google account to do so.
