Nexus One might not come to India for now

on January 10, 2010 – 12:46 am16 Comments

The Google Nexus one which is one of the most powerful android phones as of now or in other words  a SuperPhone might not come to India for now. Google India’s MD Shailesh Rao feels that India is not Smartphone friendly

Speaking at COMSNETS  in Bangalore , India to SiliconIndia, the Chief of Google India said that its very early to discuss the time frame of the Nexus One launch in India.

So Brace yourself, in other words we can assume that the Nexus One is not coming to India for now and if we are unlucky, it might not come for ever. We are really upset that brand after brand is neglecting India in the high end phone segment.   One reason we can understand is the state of our networks and 3G is still months away from large scale deployment.

Mobile search however is expected to be a top revenue generator for the Google India .

One interesting comment in the article is that people search for high-end phones only on weekends.

How many of you search for expensive phones on weekends ?

I think their conception is based on Market Data which is normally a bit unrealistic. And Also Nokia’s domination in India is making other makers think a lot before bringing something here.

Well i am amused how wrong these American companies could be about the consumer behaviors in this part of the world. Just think of any company, and you will find every second guy with a blackberry, now if they do not consider Blackberry as a smartphone, then I withdraw my point. 70-80% of the smart phone market in India is with Blackberry. Well if they are happy with not entering India, let them be happy.

I am rather disappointed in these companies. They come to India, set up shop, get their work done cheap, and yet they refuse to let us use their products. If they feel their product doesn’t have enough demand here, the least they could do is set up an online portal for India and let people who want a phone buy one.

Yet another classic case of the foreigners looking down on India.

this is really disgusting. all the sophisticated products like cars, garments, shoes, watches, etc are coming to india and looking at india as big market and you say that india is not smart phone friendly??
really google needs to think on it!!

Yes its sad for early adopters but the brightside is we get time to wait n watch n choose the best instead of jumping to buy n unknown product

Nexus one seems better than way most reviews says atleast by my user experience for the past 2 weeks, I hvnt toouches my iPhone since then

Another one I equally love is n900 , its a tough choice

I purchased Nexus for myself from EBAY.co.IN. It is secured amd safe. I received my phone on 9th day and phone is really good. My cousin had purchase N900 from same site and he is also very happy with his purchase. I am not sure why these companies assume that indians dont buy smart phones.

What kind of market analysis do they have in practice that says India is not a smartphone user!? Check out just the number of unofficial iPhone users in India and tell me about the smartphone market! There is a wide spectrum of phones as much as the wide spectrum of users. Its just that Apple did not recognize this and spoiled their iPhone launch in India. Now, they have stopped launching 3GS in India for wrong reasons i presume. Apples loss can be Googles gain only if Google acts at the right time and in a proper way to penetrate the market.
