Google Pixel Watch 5 announced in India starting at Rs. 42,900

Google has launched the Pixel Watch 5, alongside the Pixel 11 series, as its latest smartwatch. It comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes and runs Wear OS 7.

Display and design

The Pixel Watch 5 features a 3,000-nit domed Actua 360 display with custom 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The 320ppi AMOLED LTPO display supports DCI-P3 color, a 1–60Hz responsive refresh rate, 1-nit minimum brightness with AOD, and an always-on display.

Design and display highlights include:

  • 11 new glanceable complication styles
  • Two new watch faces and generative watch faces
  • 100% recycled aluminium housing
  • Second-generation HNBR Active Band with soft-touch coating
  • Fog, Olive, and Canyon colors, with Canyon exclusive to 41mm
  • Stephen Curry Special Edition in 45mm with a sweat-wicking performance loop band

Gemini and proactive assistance

At a Glance provides context-aware information on the watch face, including live boarding passes when arriving at an airport and remaining stops during a commute.

Raise to Talk provides access to Gemini by lifting the wrist. Users can:

  • Start a workout
  • Set a timer
  • Pull up dinner reservations from Gmail

Core actions are processed on-device with low latency and can work offline. Gemini Intelligence Proactive Suggestions can also find relevant information, such as a family dinner in the calendar, and surface it on the watch. Users can select, confirm, and send suggestions using a double-pinch gesture.

The watch uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor with a Cortex-M55 co-processor. It has 50% more RAM and a 12% CPU boost, with Google saying it is 20% faster than the previous generation.

Health and fitness

The Pixel Watch 5 supports dual-frequency GPS with GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, and QZSS. Google says it provides twice the route-tracking accuracy of previous generations in challenging environments. It uses 3D building models to trace satellite ray paths and weather reference stations to account for local atmospheric conditions.

Fitness and sleep features include:

  • Strength Training with step-by-step guidance, sets, rest periods, and weight and rep logging, coming soon
  • Google Health Coach with customized strength workouts
  • Custom strength routines through the Google Health app
  • Recovery recommendations based on sleep and heart rate variability
  • 15% more accurate sleep-stage detection
  • Bedtime automations that can pause audiobooks
  • Dedicated bedtime watch face
  • Smart Wake based on heart rate and movement during the 30 minutes before an alarm

The Pixel Watch 5 also introduces Breathing Emergency Detection. Using PPG, accelerometer, and barometer sensors with on-device AI, it monitors for severe, persistent drops in oxygen saturation that can result from drug toxicity accidents, severe pneumonia, or choking. If an emergency is detected and the wearer is unresponsive, the watch can automatically call emergency services and transmit the exact location. The feature will initially launch in Europe.

Health Guardian features include:

  • Loss of Pulse Detection
  • Satellite communications
  • Irregular heart rate notifications
  • High and low heart rate alerts
  • ECG
  • Blood pressure trend summaries
  • Sleep breathing quality trend summaries
  • Insulin resistance trend summaries

The three new monthly trend summaries are powered by Health Foundation Models trained on billions of minutes of sensor data from opted-in users and validated against clinical measurements. The first detailed summary arrives after one month of wear and covers metabolic, respiratory, and cardiovascular shifts. Monthly summaries will also become available across Google’s wearable portfolio, including Google Fitbit Air.

Battery and other features

Battery capacity and rated usage are:

  • 41mm: 332mAh; up to 30 hours with AOD and 48 hours in Battery Saver mode
  • 45mm: 465mAh; up to 40 hours with AOD and 72 hours in Battery Saver mode

Charging takes about 15 minutes to reach 50% on both models. The 41mm takes 25 minutes to reach 80% and 45 minutes to reach 100%, while the 45mm takes 30 minutes and 60 minutes, respectively.

Other hardware and connectivity features include:

  • Bluetooth 6.0
  • Wi-Fi 2.4GHz/5GHz
  • NFC and Ultra-Wideband
  • 64GB eMMC storage
  • 5 ATM water resistance and IP68
  • Built-in microphone and speaker
  • Touchless one-handed gestures
  • Side button and haptic crown
  • Gen 3 Premium haptics

The Pixel Watch 5 works with most phones running Android 12.0 or newer and requires a Google Account and the Google Pixel Watch app.

Google says the watch uses recycled plastic, cobalt, aluminium, steel, glass, tin, tungsten, gold, copper, and rare-earth elements. The packaging uses 100% plastic-free materials.
