WhatsApp rolls out Group Message History across devices for new members

WhatsApp has introduced Group Message History, a feature that allows new members to view recent messages when joining a group, providing context without disrupting ongoing conversations.

Group Message History

The feature enables group admins and members to send recent messages to newcomers. Shared messages remain end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy is maintained.

Key Features

  • Message range: New members can receive between 25 and 100 recent messages.
  • Admin control: Admins can disable the setting for their groups but always retain the ability to share message history.
  • Transparency: All members are notified when message history is shared, including timestamps and sender information.
  • Visual distinction: Message history is clearly differentiated from regular messages.
  • No forwarding required: Eliminates the need for screenshots or manual message forwarding.

WhatsApp says it:

Looks forward to continuing to set the standard for private, group chat experiences on WhatsApp.
