During IFA 2013, little known player Archos announced a range of new Android powered smartphones and tablets – the Titanium range is their entry-level offering and comes with dual-SIM functionality in four screen sizes. The Archos 53 Titanium is the largest of the bunch and sports a 5.3 inch TFT FWVGA display that has 854 x 480 pixels resolution – as you can imagine, the low resolution combined with large screen make for a relatively dull viewing experience.

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for and this is very true with the whole of the Titanium range – like the rest of its siblings, the Archos 53 Titanium is powered by a dual-core 1.3GHz processor and comes with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot allowing you to expand the storage by up to 64GB.
The Archos 53 Titanium runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system which works surprisingly well with a low amount of RAM. It supports two SIM cards (SIM 1 is 2G Only, SIM 2 both 2G and 3G) and offers HSDPA+ data connectivity, supporting mobile download speeds up to 21Mbps. On the back is a 5MP sharp shooter that supports 720p HD video recording at 30frames per second whilst the front has a VGA front camera. Under the hood is a 2,500 mAh battery that promises great battery life, which is definitely another positive sign for this quirky little-yet-large smartphone.
Weighing in at 200 grams, this will definitely leave a dent in your pocket but it won’t leave a mark on your wallet.
