Nokia introduces ‘Here’ mapping service, coming to iOS and Android

Nokia today introduced its cloud offering to deliver its premier maps and location experience across multiple platforms and screens. Called HERE, Nokia plans to introduce a range of new location services to provide a significantly more personal experience for users.

HTML5 based apps will be available for iOS in addition to other platforms like Mozilla’s Firefox OS and Android. The app will include offline capabilities, public transit directions and voice guided walk navigation. The free app will be available later in the coming weeks. Nokia plans to acquire California based company, Earthmine. The company’s capturing and processing technologies will be an integral part of HERE’s mapping capabilities.
