Amazon has introduced three new Android tablets with Alexa+ built in: the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Amazon Alexa Tablet 11, and Amazon Alexa Tablet 8. The company has also introduced Amazon Kids Tablets in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes for children aged 3 and above and 6 and above.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro features an aluminum unibody measuring 6.5mm thick. Its 12-inch display has a 280 PPI pixel density, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Users can choose between a standard display and a Nanomatte version with anti-glare technology.
The tablet runs on a 4nm octa-core processor, which Amazon says delivers nearly three times faster processing and nine times faster graphics than any tablet the company has previously shipped. It also supports multi-window multitasking, graphics-intensive gaming and 4K streaming. Other specifications include:
- Memory: Up to 16GB of RAM.
- Audio: Quad Dolby Atmos speakers.
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6E.
- Battery life: Up to 16 hours of video playback.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 11
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 features an 11-inch display with 2.5K resolution, a 276 PPI pixel density, a 90Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Its aluminum unibody houses an octa-core processor with 8GB of RAM. The tablet also includes dual Dolby Atmos speakers and supports up to 15 hours of video playback.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 8
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 features an 8.7-inch display and an all-aluminum body. It weighs 329g and measures 7.95mm thick. The tablet uses an octa-core processor, supports Wi-Fi 6 and offers up to 14 hours of video playback.
Amazon Alexa Tablet features
Nanomatte display
The Nanomatte display on the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro uses precision-etched anti-glare technology developed with Corning. Its photolithography process creates a pixel-aligned texture at the sub-pixel level to reduce glare while preserving detail and color accuracy.
Unlike conventional matte screens that use sandblasting, this approach is intended to retain contrast in bright conditions. Amazon says the display supports reading indoors and outdoors, including in varying lighting conditions.
Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard
For the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Amazon has introduced the Alexa Tablet Pro Pen and Alexa Tablet Pro Keyboard. The Pro Pen is a USI 2.0 active stylus with 4,096 pressure levels, tilt detection, magnetic docking and wireless charging. Its interaction with the Nanomatte display is intended to replicate the friction of writing on paper.
The stylus supports PDF annotation, sketching, handwritten notes and page markups. The Pro Keyboard attaches magnetically without Bluetooth pairing and lets users open and resize multiple windows side by side to work with apps such as email, Slack and AI coding tools. The tablet also supports switching between work and personal profiles.
Kindle reading experience
The Kindle app adds a dedicated reading mode to the Alexa Tablets. When users open a book, notifications are silenced and blue light is reduced, while battery life can extend to up to 20 hours. Readers can choose from three display themes: subtle warmth with natural color, a softened paper tone or grayscale.
With the Pro Pen, users can highlight and underline text, write notes and mark up pages. Annotations sync across Kindle apps on pen-supported devices and Kindle Scribe, allowing users to continue working with their notes across supported devices.
Alexa+ and On-Screen Intelligence
Alexa+ is built into all three tablets and can be activated by saying “Alexa” or tapping the Ask Alexa button. It can answer questions, suggest next steps and control smart-home devices. Alexa also personalizes assistance using information about users’ content, smart-home devices, recommendations and preferences.
On-Screen Intelligence lets users ask questions about the content currently displayed. For example, while browsing hiking trails, users can ask Alexa to compare options based on their needs. It can also extract dates from a game schedule, add them to a calendar and flag scheduling conflicts.
Users can enable or disable On-Screen Intelligence through Settings. The feature is disabled by default and requires users to opt in, and a visual indicator appears whenever Alexa can see the screen.
For ongoing conversations, Live sessions let users continue talking without repeating the wake word between questions. Users start a session by tapping the Alexa icon and can choose to share their screen so Alexa can follow changes in context in real time.
Privacy and personalization
Users control when Alexa listens, sees the screen and remembers information, and they can disable features at any time. Alongside these controls, the tablets provide a personalized home screen with a For You feed and Dynamic Tab.
The For You feed brings together content users have been watching, reading, listening to and playing, while Dynamic Tab displays ongoing activities, recommendations and suggestions. Kindle reading progress also carries over when users return to their books on a tablet.
The tablets run Android and support Google Play apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Gmail and Google Docs. Amazon’s own services include Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music, Amazon Quick and Amazon Luna.
Amazon Kids Tablets
Amazon’s Kids Tablets come in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes, with versions for children aged 3 and above and 6 and above. Each bundle includes a tablet, an age-appropriate protective case, a one-year Kids+ subscription and a one-year limited warranty.
The tablets provide age-appropriate apps, videos, games and books from brands such as Disney, Nickelodeon, LEGO and Sesame Street. Parents can manage access through Parent Dashboard, including controls for Google Play apps.
Amazon Kids Tablet 8.7-inch
The Amazon Kids Tablet 8.7-inch comes with 64GB of storage and supports up to 14 hours of video playback. Children can also download shows, games and books for offline use.
Amazon Kids Tablet 11-inch
The Amazon Kids Tablet 11-inch features a 2.5K display, 8GB of RAM and stylus support for drawing and homework. Both Kids Tablet models run Android and provide access to Google Play under parental controls.
The 8.7-inch model comes with a soft bumper case, while the 11-inch model includes a slim hard case. Both are available in designs featuring characters from Paw Patrol, Barbie and SpongeBob SquarePants.
Parent Dashboard and parental controls
Parent Dashboard comes pre-installed on each Kids Tablet and is also available as a free app for iOS and Android. Parents can manage settings on the tablet or remotely from their phones. The dashboard lets them:
- Set screen-time limits and monitor children’s activities.
- Find age-appropriate books, apps, games, videos and audiobooks.
- Set Learn First goals that prioritize reading and educational apps before entertainment.
- Control web browsing and pause or resume a child’s device remotely.
- View stories and artwork created with Stories with Alexa, Storybuilder and Art Studio.
The dashboard supports up to four child profiles and lets parents configure settings across compatible Amazon devices.
Storybuilder, Kids+ and Google Play
Kids+ includes Storybuilder, an AI-powered experience that lets children use their voices to create characters, plot twists and fictional worlds. It turns their ideas into picture books and comic books they can share with their parents, with guardrails intended to keep the experience age-appropriate.
Each Kids Tablet includes a one-year Kids+ subscription covering curated, ad-free books, shows, games, apps and audiobooks. The catalog includes Bluey and Peppa Pig for younger children, as well as Harry Potter and Percy Jackson for older children. Kids+ works across compatible Amazon Kids Tablets, Fire tablets, Kindle devices, Fire TV and Echo devices. It also supports adult Alexa-enabled tablets configured with a child profile.
Parents can extend access beyond the Kids+ catalog by approving apps from the full Google Play Store through Parent Dashboard. Every download requires parental approval.
